How to Play

One mystery roster. Three questions. Every day.

The basics

Every day, Restreak shows you the full roster and stat table for one NBA team-season — anywhere from 1967-68 to the present — with the team name, season, and record hidden. Your job is to figure out all three:

  • Team — pick the franchise from the dropdown. Eras matter: the 1978 Buffalo Braves and today's Los Angeles Clippers are the same franchise but different answers.
  • Season — pick the season the roster is from.
  • Record — slide to the team's regular-season win total. Only wins are graded, so don't sweat the losses side.

Lock in all three answers, hit Submit, and see how you did. Everyone in the world gets the same roster on the same day, and a new one arrives at midnight.

Scoring

  • Each exactly-correct answer is worth 3 points.
  • Get all three exactly right and you earn a +1 bonus for a perfect 10.
  • Close counts on the season. One season off on either side earns 2 points; two seasons off earns 1. (Answer 1996-97? Then 1995-96 or 1997-98 gets you 2 points; 1994-95 or 1998-99 gets 1.)
  • Close counts on the record. Within two wins of the actual total earns 2 points; within four wins earns 1.
  • The team is all or nothing — you either know them or you don't.

Streaks and the leaderboard

Play on consecutive days to build a streak. Miss a full day and it resets. With a free account (verified email), your scores, streaks, and question-by-question averages are saved forever, and you'll appear on the leaderboard. You can play without an account, but your results only live in your browser — and streaks reset.

Tips for roster detectives

  • The names are the clue. Recognize one player and their career arc narrows the era fast. A young rookie season or a final veteran year pins the exact season. We're not going to provide you with player ages, though; that would make things a little too easy.
  • Missing stats are a time machine. A dash (—) means the stat wasn't tracked yet. No 3P columns? Before 1979-80. No steals or blocks? Before 1973-74. No turnovers? Before 1977-78. No games started? Before 1981-82.
  • Sort the table. Click any column header. Sorting by minutes or points shows you the core rotation at a glance.
  • Count the games. A GP leader around 50 says the 1998-99 lockout. Around 66, the 2011-12 lockout. Around 72, the 2020-21 COVID season.
  • Do the roster math. Per-36 numbers expose bench scorers; free-throw rates and pace-era totals hint at decade.

House rules

  • One play per day — no retries, no take-backs.
  • The puzzle rolls over at midnight, your local time.
  • No looking things up. (We can't stop you. But you'll know.)
